lexiCan offers you an automatic spell checker and hyphenation to facilitate correct text input.
Activation of spell check and hyphenation
You can activate the (automatic) spell check and hyphenation via the main menu and the “Information” section. There you will find the corresponding “switches".
If the spell checker is activated for the open knowledge area, unknown words or spelling mistakes are recognized and marked with a red wavy line.
The correction can now be made manually or with the support of lexiCan (context menu via right mouse button). If possible, lexiCan makes suggestions for correction, offers the option of deleting the word, ignoring this or all of these “errors” or adding the word to your personal dictionary and thus preventing it from being marked as an error again.
If you click on “Spelling” within the menu bar "Review", a dialog box will give you further options for correcting errors.
Under “Options” you will find specific setting options.
You can also manage the dictionaries available there.

You can specify for each word and each paragraph which language the spell check should be based on. To do this, select the relevant text area and then click on “Language” in the “Check” toolbar.
In the dialog box, select the underlying language (dictionaries are available for languages marked with ABC and a tick), e.g.
If a dictionary exists for the selected language, lexiCan now uses this for the spell check and, if possible, the list for hyphenation.
lexiCan can hyphenate words automatically if a corresponding list for hyphenation is available for the language used (see also next section). To switch hyphenation on and off, see "Activation of spell check and hyphenation" above.
Add dictionaries and lists for hyphenation
The basic installation of lexiCan already contains dictionaries for German and English. It is possible to add further dictionaries and lists for hyphenation. Numerous data sets are available in the download section for lexiCan Personal at www.lexican.de.
To integrate the dictionaries into your program installation, unzip the ZIP file you have downloaded. It usually contains two file folders (a hyphenation list is not available for all languages).
Copy the files in the folder "Dictionaries", eg.
into the program folder
C:\Program Files\lexiCan 7 Personal\Dictionaries
The files in the folder "HyphenationLists" mus be copied to the program folder
C:\Program Files\lexiCan 7 Personal\HyphenationLists
After restarting lexiCan, the language added in this way will be available for selection and hyphenation should work properly.
Note to users from Switzerland and Austria:
You can download your own dictionaries of the German language.
lexiCan can only work with one dictionary of the same language. For this reason, you must delete the German DE dictionary supplied after the process described above for installing your dictionary.
